Philip & Catherine Hodge

Aetna Medicare Advantage members

Philip: My name is Philip Hodge. I worked for General Motors for forty six years. I’m thankful for the job that I had, that I was able to provide for my family, take care of them, send them to school and do all the other nice things that people want to do for their family.

Philip: We had an Aetna meeting. The Aetna representatives — they went pretty much from A to Z.

Catherine: So we checked to see if all of our doctors were there and all were there.

Catherine: Being 60 and 70 now is not like being 60 and 70 back during my mother’s time. Being healthy, like you know I can go in my garden and work. I can take care of myself and I can help with my grandchildren. I can take care of my husband. We go on cruises.

Philip: We do have relatives in Florida but we also like Florida. We had considered moving but she didn’t want to leave the children. The grandchildren.

Catherine: I’m not gonna leave.

Philip: But the idea of coverage is great. Because one time when we were there we were in the bed sleeping in the middle of the night and something bit me and I had to go to the hospital.

When you’re sick away from home, something happens. You know, you don’t have your family doctor or your local hospital and you’re in a strange place and so that’s comforting to know that at least you have insurance to go to someplace, you know, where you can get help.

Catherine: I had surgery in February and then I got a bill from my doctor and I called Aetna. So the representative she look, she says, “you paid too much money,“ and I says “let me call the doctor’s office,” and she says “No. Let me take care of this for you, I’ll call you back.” It was about an hour, an hour and a half she called me back and she said the hospital had taken too much money and they were going to put it right back on my debit card and so everything was fine and I really appreciate Aetna for being so thorough specially’ to elderly people. You know maybe I don’t look elderly, but I am 68. And I’m so glad they had representatives there to take care of that for us.

I don’t know what I would’ve done without a union. We really lived a good life. So I want to tell anybody that wants to go Aetna.  Were here and were glad that were here.

Hear from Gerry

Gerald O’Hare

Aetna Medicare Advantage member

“My name is Gerry O’Hare and I live in West Deptford, New Jersey. I grew up in this area I know this area very well. I’m a Vietnam veteran. I went to college on the GI bill and I became a teacher. I taught elementary grades and in the middle school grades, in different school districts in the state of New Jersey.

When I retired, they gave me a choice of what health care company I would use, and they gave me a chart. And it was a really interesting chart, because on one side, it had the names of the companies, and as you look towards the right it was the different areas of healthcare that that company covered. Well, Aetna had all the sections covered and I’ve been happy with Aetna ever since.

I have a hearing loss from the war, and I wear hearing aids. If I’m on the telephone I may miss half of what’s being told to me. When the nurse called me, she told me that Aetna has this Healthy Home Visit Program and that they would like to come to my house, and talk to me, check my medication. I’d much rather have someone come to my house - this way I can hear everything, I can express myself.

We talked about losing weight which is always a problem for me because I like to eat and I’m diabetic. So, she says well you’re what they call insulin resistant and I really didn’t know about the different types of foods that I should eat or should not eat. They taught me how to read the labels it was a real learning experience for me. And I did lose 50 pounds - clothes are a little big now and I’m very pleased with the Healthy Home visits.

I was recommended to walk by the Aetna nurse, but because I had diabetes, I have to take care of my feet. So, I go to a podiatrist, they told me in the office well if you have diabetes then your insurance company will help you get shoes. Because if I go barefoot around the house, I could step on something and not realize it and get an infection. So, I applied for these boots that I like, and Aetna did help me with that.

Part of staying healthy is having a good social life and meeting different people. I find that that type of activity keeps me sharp, it keeps me alert. I have four children and I have three grandchildren. I want to spend as much time with my grandchildren as I can. I want them to remember me as a healthy person. Aetna has helped me with that, and I’m really happy about that.”

Margaret Rollins

Aetna Medicare Advantage member

“My name is Margaret Rollins and I’m an Aetna Medicare Advantage member.

I grew up in Los Angeles, so we were close to the beach, went to the beach a lot.

Lionel Rollins was my husband’s name. And we met in high school. We became engaged when we were 18 and married when we were 19.

Of course, he went into the service right after we were married. He worked on the B1 and he designed all the electrical, being an electrical engineer.

And it later became Boeing, but it was Rockwell at the time he worked there.

Aetna has always approved any treatment that I’ve needed, be it for my eyes or anything else.

I’m dealing with macular degeneration. And I was very fortunate that my ophthalmologist caught it early. And so now I get a shot in both eyes. But I’ve been very thankful about that and Aetna covered the whole thing.

My experience with Aetna has been very good. It’s been better than any other insurance company that I’ve been with.”

Margaret’s son

“Being healthy is important to me because it allows me to do the things I enjoy doing. It allows me to do the volunteer work that I do.

I have always sort of dabbled and I would draw on one thing or another and when my sister retired, she was gonna take a painting class and got me to do it, and that’s how I really got into the oil painting.

Aetna has called me and asked me about if I needed anything, any home care and one thing and another, which I don’t, thank goodness, and that was something no other insurance company has done. So that’s something Aetna really goes up and beyond.

I’m very happy with Aetna Medicare Advantage. It’s been very good for me.”
